Taken from IEB Prelim
A model car completes one lap around a circular track of 400 m at an average speed of 1 5 m/s and then a second lap at an average speed v. The average speed for the completion of both laps was 1 8 m/s. What was the average speed of the second lap? [latex]s=ut+\dfrac{1}{2}at^2[/latex]
There are 3 scenarios to consider here:
The first lap, the second lap and then the first and second lap together.
Which of the following statements are true? (There is more that one correct answer.)
The kinetic energy of an object depends on…
[latex]E_k=\dfrac{1}{2}mv^2[/latex]

A small aeroplane starting from rest can achieve a high enough speed to take off from a runway that is 400 m long. Another, heavily loaded aeroplane, also starting from rest, has the same acceleration but needs to achieve twice the speed to take off. What is the minimum length of runway that will be needed for the heavy plane to take off?
Fill in your answer below. There is no need to include any units.
Break the problem up into two parts. First setup an equation using the information provided for the small aeroplane. Then setup and equation for the heavier aeroplane and solve simultaneously.
