Self-management tools, positioning of self and problem solving, contain elements that are often experience related knowledge, skills, and abilities (aka KSAs). These constructs measure to what extent individuals perceive they are proficient in all three areas and where they feel they need to improve or be developed. Knowledge refers to the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject. Skills are the proficiencies developed through training or experience. Lastly, abilities refer to the manner in which the individual can practically and efficiently apply their knowledge and skills.

Construct D assesses the individual’s perception of their own self-management tools such as planning, goalsetting and resilience. This includes whether or not the individual is able to deal with adversity and grow.
